Your Best Wedding Playlist

Hey guys! I had fun here with this post and I'm sure it will be helpful for a lot of brides finding those perfect songs for your wedding reception. So, I complied my Top 10 Songs per category to help you choose the right song. Now, your DJ might have some great suggestions too, so definitely ask them for suggestions. Now these lists are in no particular, numerical order.

Let's Start with the fun one - Your bridal party intro song. This is the song that plays as your parents, bridesmaids and groomsmen are introduced into the reception. Some will also choose a different song just for the Bride & Groom grand entrance. You want to find a song that gets people moving in their seats and excited for your grand entrance. You can go old-school, or new - it's totally up to you. I suggest finding a song that gets you pumped up!

  1. "Happy" - Pharrell Williams
  2. "Best Day of My Life" - American Authors
  3. "Forever" - Chris Brown
  4. "Thunderstruck" - AC/DC
  5. "Party Rock Anthem" - LMFAO
  6. "Uptown Funk" - Bruno Mars
  7. "Bust A Move" - Young M.C (my personal fav!)
  8. "Crazy In Love" - Beyonce feat. Jay-Z
  9. "Turn Down For What" - DJ Snake feat Lil Jon
  10. "You Make My Dreams Come True" - Hall & Oats

To me, this song is the one you should really spend the most time picking out. This list is full of very commonly used first dance songs, but choose a song that means the most to you and your significant other. It also doesn't have to be a slow song. Have fun with it!

  1. "At Last" - Etta James
  2. "The Way You Look Tonight" - Frank Sinatra
  3. "Thinking Out Loud" - Ed Sheeran
  4. "Better Together" - Jack Johnson
  5. "Let's Stay Together" - Al Green
  6. "Stand By Me" - Ben E. King
  7. "The Luckiest" - Ben Folds
  8. "Count on Me" - Bruno Mars
  9. "You & Me" - Dave Matthews Band
  10. "Your Song" - Elton John

Another really important song choice. Pick a song that best fits your relationship with your father, step-father, or whomever you share your dance with. This list and the Mother Son list can definitely go hand-in-hand.

  1. "Wonderful Tonight" - Eric Clapton
  2. "My Girl" - Temptations
  3. "I Loved Her First" - Heartland (such a sweet song for country fans)
  4. "What A Wonderful World" - Louis Armstrong
  5. "Daughters" - John Mayer
  6. "Landslide" - Fleetwood Mac
  7. "Dance With My Father" - Luther Vandross
  8. "Isn't She Lovely" - Stevie Wonder
  9. "In My Life" - The Beatles
  10. "Butterfly Kisses" - Bob Carlisle

I just love the mother son dances. It is such a sentimental moment for mothers and for some grooms, it may be hard to find the perfect song. You want to pick a slow song that's appropriate. Here's the perfect list.

  1. "My Wish" - Rascal Flatts
  2. "A Song For Mama" - Boyz II Men
  3. "I Hope You Dance" - Lee Ann Womack
  4. "That's What Mammas Do" - Jason Matthews
  5. "Wind Beneath My Wings" - Bette Midler
  6. "You've Got A Friend" - James Taylor
  7. "Mama's Song" - Carrie Underwood
  8. "93 Million Miles" - Jason Mraz
  9. "Unchained Melody" - Righteous Brothers
  10. "Memories" - Elvis Presley

Yes, that's right. Mother & Daughter can have a dance too! I'll definitely be sharing a dance with my mother at my wedding. She's my rock and I wouldn't want to share that moment with anyone else. So, in addition to the above dances, I'll be sharing one with my momma.

  1. "I'll Be There" - Jackson 5
  2. "You Raise Me Up" - Josh Groban
  3. "In My Daughters Eyes" - Martina McBride
  4. "Forever Young" - Rod Stewart
  5. "Because You Loved Me" - Celine Dion
  6. "The Best Day" - Taylor Swift
  7. "God Only Knows" - Beach Boys
  8. "Teach the Children Well" - Crosby, Stills, & Nash
  9. "Mama's Song" - Carrie Underwood
  10. "I Hope You Dance" - Lee Ann Womack

So the last few playlist can be fun, they can be rowdy, and they can be hilarious. I also crack up when I hear some of these. They are so ironic, and some are standard and play it safe. By this part of the night, everyone's well fed and usually well...hydrated. Don't be afraid of some of these songs - they are all a hit with guests.

  1. "Single Ladies" - Beyonce (this song was basically made for the bouquet toss)
  2. "Fancy" - Iggy Izalea
  3. "Maneater" - Nelly Furtado
  4. "Its Raining Men" - The Weather Girls
  5. "Where Them Girls At" - David Guetta
  6. "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" - Pat Benatar
  7. "Move B***h" - Ludacris (see where I'm coming from with hilarity?)
  8. "Run the World" - Beyonce
  9. "Love Is A Battlefield" - Pat Benetar
  10. "These Boots Were Made for Walking" - Nancy Sinatra

Probably the most risque part of your wedding reception, so why not call it out with a great song? I think I've seen it all, sometimes the groom is very quick to grab the garter - and then there's the other part of it. I've seen partial strip teases (hide your children!) and uncoordinated man-dances. Whichever type you may be, here's the list to fit the mood. You can also choose one of these songs for the moment when the catcher of the garter places it on the lucky lady who captured the bouquet. ;)

  1. "You Shook Me All Night Long" - AC/DC
  2. "Womanizer" - Britney Spears
  3. "I Wanna Sex You Up" - Color Me Bad
  4. "Brick House" - Commodores
  5. "Mission Impossible Theme Song" - Danny Elfman
  6. "Pour Some Sugar On Me" - Def Leppard
  7. "Pony" - Ginuwine (by far my favorite!)
  8. "You Sexy Thing" - Hot Chocolate
  9. "Foxey Lady" - Jimi Hendrix
  10. "Sexyback" - Justin Timberlake

Let your man pick this one. Something to get the guys to actually go to the dance floor for the garter toss. These are my favorites and I've heard many if not all of them at one wedding or another.

  1. "Rocky Theme Song" - Bill Conti/Cincinnati Pops Orchestra
  2. "Get Lucky" - Daft Punk feat Pharrell
  3. "Whip It" - Devo
  4. "Girls" - Beastie Boys
  5. "Right Round" - Flo Rida
  6. "Big Pimpin" - Jay Z
  7. "Sexy and I Know It" - LMFAO
  8. "U Can't Touch This" - MC Hammer (my fav!!)
  9. "Hot In Herre" - Nelly
  10. "Pretty Fly For A White Guys" - Offspring (will definitely get some laughs)

So hopefully these song lists have giving you the inspiration for your wedding reception. I've created a playlist on Spotify of all of these songs listed so you can easily find them in one place. You can find that playlist here.
